Soteri Skin began with a personal struggle.
Our scientific founder, Dr. Rafal Pielak, watched his wife suffer from severe eczema. Like many people living with the condition, she tried countless creams and moisturizers, but the relief never lasted. The itching, redness, and irritation kept coming back.
Determined to find a better solution, Dr. Pielak turned to science. As a biomedical scientist and PhD, he began studying why eczema keeps returning for so many people. His research led him to an often-overlooked factor in skin health: skin pH.
Healthy skin is naturally acidic, but eczema-prone skin often becomes more alkaline. This shift weakens the skin barrier and makes it easier for irritants and bacteria to trigger inflammation. Dr. Pielak also discovered that many moisturizers are formulated at a higher pH than the skin naturally needs.
This insight led to the creation of Soteri Skin and its patented pH/LOCK® technology, designed to help restore and maintain the skin’s natural acidity, support the skin barrier, and break the cycle of recurring eczema symptoms.

Soteri Skin was founded by Dr. Rafal Pielak, a Harvard Medical School–trained biomedical PhD scientist specializing in skin barrier and eczema research, and Lama Mansour, a Harvard Business School MBA and consumer health executive. Together, they combined scientific research and consumer health business expertise to develop Soteri Skin into a skin health tech company that is reaching millions of families.
The name Soteri comes from the Greek word Soter, meaning “to save” or “to deliver.” It reflects our mission to help people break free from the cycle of eczema and regain comfort in their skin. In Greek mythology, Soteria symbolized deliverance and peace after struggle—an idea that captures Soteri Skin’s goal of bringing calm after flare-ups.
